Sheryl Sandberg calls for policy changes to raise women’s pay

Facebook COO reads equal numbers of men and women should apply for jobs and run for political situations to address gender gap

Facebooks Sheryl Sandberg has called for public policy changes to help improve women salary and claimed that women underestimate their merit, which prevents them from asking for payment rises.

Sandberg, the chief operating officer of Facebook, told BBC Radio 4s Desert Island Discs on Sunday she guessed occupation openings should be contested by equal numbers of women and men.

We need to start paying dames well and we need the public and the corporate policy to get there, she pronounced. Certainly, wives applying for jobs at the same frequency as beings, maidens passing for bureau at the same pace as gentlemen, that has got to be part of the answer.

Her observations come after the sequence over gender inequalities at the BBC following the publication of remunerate paces for broadcast expertise, which revealed wide-cut cracks between the earnings of males and colleagues in some departments.

Sandberg is estimated by Forbes magazine to be worth $1.7 bn( 1.3 bn ), but she told the Desert Island Discs presenter Kirsty Young she experienced self-doubt while considering at Harvard and recognised that women underestimated their worth more than humankinds, which stopped them putting themselves forwards or asking for a compensate rise.

Her position appeared to repetition that of Sir Philip Hampton, the non-executive chairman of drugs busines GlaxoSmithKline, who has been tasked by the government with working to remove barriers impeding maidens from rising to elderly business poles. He came under volley last week after saying he had never, ever had a woman ask for a compensate rise.

Sandberg, who have decided Beyoncs Run The World( Girls) as her first lyric, spoke: We start telling “girls ” not to lead at a really young age and we start to tell sons[ to] induce at a very young age. That is an error. I speculate everyone has inside them the ability to lead and we should make parties opt that , not based on their gender, but on who they are and whom they want to be.

She too talked about her agony following the death of her husband Dave Goldberg in 2015. I didnt know anyone could call this much, Sandberg said.

She selected One by U2 as the record she would save if the other seven were washed away, because Goldberg had enjoyed the band. Sandberg also opted Queens Youre My Best Friend in tribute to her group of close female pals, who she replied had supported her through the ordeal.
