I was State supreme court nominee Kavanaugh’s law clerk — Let me tell you about the man I know

Until President Trump selected him for a seat on the U.S. Supreme Court Monday night, most Americans had never heard of Judge Brett Kavanaugh. Who is he, beyond his resume? What’s he really like? As a person who has provided as his constitution clerk from 2006 to 2007, I may be able to provide some answers.

During his 12 years on the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, Judge Kavanaugh has had many law clerks. It was my prodigious good fortune to be one of them.

Much has been said about Judge Kavanaugh’s brilliance, judicial nature and commitment to the rule of rule. As rule salesclerks, we identified those characters in action every day. But we also got to know the evaluate as a human being. As the verification process get underway, I hope the Senate and the person will too. They will like what the hell is see.

For example, Judge Kavanaugh is a dedicated husband and father-god of two girlfriends. Back when I worked for him, he was a brand new pa. I still recollect the adjudicate beaming as he played hide-and-go-seek in chambers with his 1-year-old daughter, who are able chuckle and cry with enjoy as he sang her epithet out loud while inching closer and closer to her conceal discern. Eleven years later, he is still enjoy his persona as a father.

Judge Kavanaugh is the author of almost 300 judicial opinions, sets on the nation’s most influential federal appeals court, and schools a trend on the breakup of supremacies at Harvard. But somehow he procures is now time to tutor both of his girls’ basketball teams.

Judge Kavanaugh is the author of virtually 300 judicial sentiments, baby-sits on the nation’s more influential federal appeals court, and learns a route on the breakup of supremacies at Harvard. But somehow he acquires is now time to manager both of his girls’ basketball teams.

The judge also departs out of his course to spend time with his clerks and to be a part of their lives. Frequent lunches with him are one of the many joyfulness of the job. He passes the country to attend salesclerk bridals, and every year he invites his extended family of salesclerks to proceeds learn his beloved Washington Nationals baseball team.

At the conclusion of its period, he treats his clerks to dinner to thank them and converse about their future objectives. And he and his wife, Ashley, host an annual vacation dinner for all his past and present constitution clerks and their significant other at their home.

Of course, it wasn’t all fun and games. Clerking for Judge Kavanaugh was hard work. I remember he was toiling away on New Year’s Day and expected us to be there too. Late that afternoon, the reviewer trod over to where my co-clerks and I were working. He examined uncharacteristically happy. Then we found out why.

Judge Kavanaugh explained that his wife “called and said we all have to call it a day and go home.” I couldn’t assist laugh. Like it or not, the evaluate was always candid in declaring- and loving in following- limiting authority.

Still, we didn’t mind the long hours. We knew that Judge Kavanaugh worked harder- much harder- than anyone, which stimulated us to make it our all.

The judge returns the same boundless vigour and interest to everything he does. He is a two-time Boston marathoner, and he has repeatedly deserved the deed of “fastest judge” in the ACLI Capital Challenge race. Even in chambers, he was hard to keep up with.

It has been 11 years since I left the judge’s assemblies, and eight years since I’ve moved to Florida with their own families. I still announce him for steering whenever I have to make an important decision. His response is always the same: He listens carefully, offers his own scene, and then expects a simple but inordinately generous question: “How can I help? ”

I can count on one side the number of people in my life who regularly ask me that question and entail it. It is stunning to me that one of them is a former boss who likewise happens to be one of “the worlds largest” discriminated evaluates in the country.

Over its first year, Judge Kavanaugh has helped me and his other clerks in countless ways. Most of all, “hes having” taught us what it means to be a good and respectable serviceman, who works tirelessly and animosities for perfection, but still sees hour for house, friends, and the things that is actually matter.

This is the Judge Kavanaugh I know and admire, and from whom I have learned so much better. I was proud to work for him, and I hope the country will get to know that boy as well.

Amit Agarwal was a law clerk for Judge Kavanaugh from 2006 -0 7. He currently resides in Tallahassee, Florida.
